This service is for all women with FGM, and in particular for non-pregnant women. Our nearest tube station is East Acton on the Central line which is a five minute walk away.
We aim to see women within two weeks of contacting us by self-referral. You can ring us directly and we will book you in. We provide counselling and support for women with FGM, we can explain to you what type of FGM you have, we carry out de-infibulation (the “reversal” or “opening” procedure) for women with Type III FGM using local anaesthetic; and we provide a referral service for women with other complex perineal problems as a result of FGM.
We have expert Midwives, Somali and Arabic-speaking Health Advocates and specialist Counsellors to support women and families suffering the consequences of FGM. You do not need a GP referral and you will be seen within 2 weeks of contacting us. We carry out the “reversal” procedure under local anaesthetic or can refer you to a consultant for uro- gynaecology or complex perineal problems.

This is the only UK service for children who have had, are suspected to have had, or may be at risk of FGM. It is a dedicated monthly multidisciplinary clinic offering appropriate care for affected children and young people. Assessment is made of whether FGM has been performed. If FGM is confirmed, the clinic offers management of the physical and psychological health implications of FGM. If surgery such as de-infibulation is required, it is undertaken in an age appropriate setting. Other at risk children within the family can be assessed. There is close liaison with the police, social care and local community groups. The clinic takes referrals from health professionals, children’s social services and police as well as self-referrals. The clinic offers a review service of DVDs from clinicians working in other safeguarding services where FGM is suspected but not confirmed.
